Michael qualified with a BA(Hons) degree in Medical Sciences in 1984 and, after a short period in the UK public healthcare sector moved into the radiation therapy field gaining extensive experience in worldwide markets outside of the Americas as Vice President Sales and Marketing for these regions with Varian Medical Systems Michael specialized in Sales and Marketing Operations and led as the public-private partnership (PPP) Director in the development and implementation of PPP projects worldwide for Varian, following the first pioneering PPP projects in the UK in the 1990s Michael recently led the Market Access team to develop cancer and radiation therapy solutions in emerging markets for Varian working at ministerial levels of government, and senior levels in UN agencies and key Cancer NGOs Michael has hosted international workshops on developing advanced radiation oncology solutions for emerging markets “As my career progressed in the field of radiation therapy it became clear to me that improving global access and its effectiveness are areas where I want to devote my knowledge, time and energy to make a difference. Use of radiation therapy will grow globally. It is a unique technology that will improve in its effectiveness particularly in tumours that are currently difficult to target“ |
Nick has over 45 years’ experience in healthcare
A qualified accountant, Nick was in the UK NHS for over 20 years until 1996, his last post as Finance Director of a large acute NHS Trust Nick was a key part of the team to secure a brand-new hospital on a greenfield site, as part of the first wave of the UK PFI initiative From there, Nick went on to lead the private sector team who successfully bid to develop the Oxford Churchill Cancer Hospital, again a PFI scheme, where his specialist knowledge for cancer solutions was cemented Nicks' work since 1996 has been geared around health planning in the UK and abroad, and Nick become the external advisor to Varian (where he met Michael), looking at cancer solutions provided by PPPs globally Nick successfully closed projects in the UK, Turkey and Vietnam, and opened up other markets to a PPP approach in low to middle income countries Over the last 10-15 years Nick has increasingly looked at providing solutions for cancer diagnostics, treatment and, exploring innovative solutions |
